Albion teams shine in GDL games
Teams from the Florida Albion Football Club are making their mark in the Gauteng Development League.
Florida Albion’s soccer teams are making an impact in their Gauteng Development League games.
Their most recent clash was against Pretoria Athletics recently, where players braved freezing cold, windy and rainy conditions to deliver strong performances despite the less-than-ideal weather.
Albion’s U13s put on a brave fight against the visiting team, effectively keeping them at bay with excellent defensive strategy and biding their time in hopes that a scoring opportunity would present itself.
Their moment finally came in the second half, but it was not to be. The missed opportunity led to a one-on-one draw at full-time.
According to team manager Yusuf Guman, the team played well and kept their composure, but unfortunately, they were unable to create another opportunity to score.
Next on the bill for the day was Albion’s U15s, who made full use of their superior ball skills by keeping the opponents guessing with their rapid pass-and-move strategy.
This proved to be highly effective, resulting in a relatively comfortable two-nil lead.
“Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication between defenders and the goalie, the Pretoria team managed to get one goal back to finish with two-nil in favour of Florida Albion.”
Albion’s U17s suffered a heartbreaking five-to-one loss against the Pretoria boys.
“The home team was completely overrun by the visitors,” says Guman. “They learned a painful lesson on the field. A lack of communication on the field and defensive errors cost them dearly, resulting in a five-to-one loss.”
In the last game of the day, Albion’s notorious and formidable U19s proved once again why they are widely feared and respected as they kept their fearsome reputation firmly intact with pure determination and their tried and tested game plan.
“The U19s dominated from the word go, sticking firmly to their game plan, which includes tight control over ball possession.
“The visitors simply did not have an answer and they struggled in vain to win the ball back.
“Even with an injured striker, the Albion team outplayed the opposition at every turn, managing to score a solid victory with a final whistle score of five to one.”
