Ogle Foundation feeds the homeless

Heritage Day feeding scheme: Spreading hope and dignity in Roodepoort.

On Heritage Day, the Ogle Foundation embarked on a mission to make a tangible difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

Driven by compassion and a deep understanding of poverty, homelessness and food insecurity in the area, the foundation organised a feeding scheme to provide sustenance and dignity to those in need at Harry Brown Park in Roodepoort CBD.

According to the foundation’s founder, Patty Ogle, they are touched by the severe consequences of homelessness; hence, they have made it their mission always to provide and make a difference.

“Homelessness can lead to severe hunger, malnutrition, and other vulnerabilities, so making access to food an essential service.

“By providing meals, the foundation addresses one of the most immediate and basic needs of the homeless, aiming to improve their quality of life and offer a sense of dignity.

“Additionally, feeding programs often serve as an entry point for broader community engagement and support services,” says Patty.

Patty says the turnout was remarkable considering that it was a public holiday. She says at least 80 individuals gathered, and many returned for seconds.

“I made a pot of beans, meaty bones soup, and spinach. People had an option between samp and pap, and we had juice on the side. We remained at the park from 10:00 and at around 12:30, everything was finished.

“The gratitude in their eyes and smiles was palpable,” adds Patty.

The foundation is also planning another feeding scheme set to take place on Christmas Eve, and they are pleading with the greater community of Roodepoort for donations of non-perishable food items and clothing. They request members of the community to spread the word and join the cause by volunteering.
