Florida North Community Forum officially established

The Florida North Community Forum will work for the betterment of their neighbourhood by fostering strong relations with municipal entities.

The establishment of the Florida North Community Forum has been successfully concluded with the election of a committee and the adoption of its constitution.

According to the newly elected chairperson Moaaz Areff, the organisation was brought into being to give a voice to residents in their dealings with the various entities.

“As a collective, the forum carries much more weight in its dealings with municipal entities than a single resident does. As the forum, we are in a position to take on bigger problems and get results.”

The new committee was voted in during a meeting at Hoërskool Florida on September 7, after an in-depth explanation regarding the role and working of the forum by steering committee member Whitey van der Linde. Whitey has opted not to stand as a committee member, although he did declare himself available to help in any way the committee may see fit.

This was followed by the acceptance of the organisation’s constitution.

“We are very excited about the future of our area,” Moaaz says.

“Our next step will be to get local businesses on board and thus get buy-in from all spheres of the community.”

The meeting was well attended by residents as well as representatives from other local organisations including the Florida Hills Residents Association, Florida Block Watch and Discovery Community Forum.

Ward 70 councillor Caleb Finn congratulated the new committee on their election and added that he looks forward to working together for the betterment of the area.
