Helderkruin GBV suspect declines bail application

The suspect linked to the death of a 22-year-old woman from Matholesville who was stabbed and set alight appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court and declined an opportunity to apply for bail.

Karabo Montsho, the suspect accused of allegedly stabbing and setting alight his ex-girlfriend, Amanda Malata in Helderkruin, made his first appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on September 9.

Montsho was apprehended and arrested in Orange Farm on September 6.

Despite being granted the opportunity to apply for bail, Montsho declined, opting to remain in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 27.

The court hearing was met with a strong show of support from the Matholesville community and members of the Gender-Based Violence Brigade, who gathered outside the court protesting and demanding justice for the young woman.

It is alleged that Montsho went to the 22-year-old’s room on September 5 and had a heated argument leading to Montsho stabbing and setting her alight.

Malata was then hospitalised and was put on life support. She sadly passed away on September 6.
