Bowling, bonding and fun at Ladies Day

Discovery Bowling Club hosts a successful Ladies Day.

Women in the bowling fraternity gathered together at the Discovery Bowling Club in their shorts, shades and spring-inspired outfits for a nice day of bowling competition and sweet treats.

The Discovery Bowling Club’s annual Ladies Day kicked off early on September 2 and saw women from nine different clubs, which include the Sables District, Randburg and Linden, descend to the colourfully transformed venue.

The Ladies Day is one of the Sables’ fundraising initiatives to ensure that clubs in the district have enough funds for things like maintenance and other things the club might need.

Sables is the name of the district (province) under which bowling clubs on the West Rand belong as part of the national structure of bowling as a sport in South Africa.

The women played nine ends in the first half, and the score was calculated, and the winners played other winners in nine ends in the second half of the day.

According to Yvonne Faber, a committee member of the Discovery Bowling Club, participants had the opportunity to win fantastic prizes, with a raffle adding to the excitement.

The lucky winners were Ella Oosthuizen, Retha Zwart and Marthie de Jager, all from Discovery, as well as Retha van der Walt from Krugersdorp Bowling Club, who took home the coveted prizes.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank my committee members for their support and hard work to have made this day such a success. The ladies were dressed very well according to our spring theme, and it was a nice and relaxing day for all,” shared Yvonne.
