CoJ hosts community engagement

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) in collaboration with other entities, hosted a civic educational training session at the Tshepisong Multipurpose Community Centre for the Tshepisong community on August 14.

The CoJ’s speaker’s office invited residents to learn more about civic rights, responsibilities and how to actively participate in the development of their community.

Civic education is important to the community since it provides all citizens with ongoing, systematic information and educational opportunities that allow them to participate effectively in a democratic society.

According to the city, this initiative is aimed at fostering community engagement and empowerment across the city. The program was supported by different state entities, which include the Home Affairs Department, City Power, Pikitup and many more.

“We are here to educate the community on how to participate in the city’s engagement plans and also allow them to engage with different departments of entities that we have invited,” said Sfiso Hlongwane, member of CoJ’s ward governance.

Over 200 individuals attended the initiative to get service from involved parties and get information on different topics of interest. Members of the community had an opportunity to engage in the different aspects affecting their community.

These civic educational sessions are expected to be held in all seven city regions.
