Crawford’s secret weapons take over at chess competition

The Maharaj sisters continue to do wonders in chess.

On Saturday, August 17, the Maharaj sisters made their mark at the D12 Individual Chess Team competition held at John Barrable Hall in Benoni.

This competition was hosted as part of the Gauteng Provincial School Chess event. Chess has been recognised as a valuable tool for enhancing academic performance and critical thinking skills. It teaches important skills such as logical reasoning, pattern recognition and decision-making, which can be applied to various aspects of life, including schoolwork.

According to Crawford International Ruimsig’s marketing officer Lindsay van Boven, Arya and Anaamika managed to raise the flag of their school at a provincial competition.

The sisters claimed new records from the provincial competition. Arya secured victory in four and a half games out of five she played. She ranked number three in Gauteng and received a silver medal and a certificate of participation.

On the other hand, Anaamika won four out of her five games and received a certificate of participation. She is ranked 11th in Gauteng.

Arya earned a spot on the Gauteng team to compete at the National Chess Tournament in Gqeberha. Crawford congratulates both participants for their hard work and dedication. The school wishes Arya the best of luck in her upcoming tournament.
