Three arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure and cable theft

Swift action leads to the arrest of three Zimbabwean nationals in Florida.

A JMPD Infrastructure Protection Unit officer was conducting a routine patrol along Westlake Road in Florida on Tuesday, July 23 when he noticed a white Toyota Quantum with four occupants parked on the side of the road.

“Upon closer inspection, the officer discovered copper cables inside the vehicle. While questioning the occupants, the driver managed to flee the scene. Fortunately, an unmarked vehicle from the JMPD Tactical Response Unit arrived at the scene and assisted the officer in apprehending the three remaining suspects,” JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said in a statement.

The vehicle used to commit the crime was seized and booked into the police’s pound.

All three suspects are expected to make their first appearance at Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court this week.
