Gauteng Department of Education opens 2025 academic year applications.

The Gauteng Department of Education has officially opened online applications for Grade One and Grade Eight placements for the 2025 academic year.

The applications will close on August 12. This will give parents 32 days to apply for their children, ensuring that they secure space to study in schools across the province next year.

According to a statement released by Gauteng MEC for Education, Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, Matome Chiloane, the first day of applications was successful, and more than 229 000 Grade One and Grade Eight applications were processed.

Matome also emphasised that if a child is in Grade R at a school this year, it does not automatically mean they will continue to Grade One in that same school next year, according to Chiloane, parents of Grade R learners should also apply for admission for their children.
