Roodepoort’s tense tie against Pirates

Poorte's final game against Pirates yields a draw.

The final game between Roodepoort Rugby Club and the Pirates was a nail-biter, with the U11 home team battling off to a thrilling draw.

On July 6, the club hosted weekend games, where the home team embarked on a nail-biting, head-to-head 80-minute game against teams like the WASPS and Pirates.

The U11 boys played three games in total, and the first early game was against WASP. It was a nice and hard game, especially with the cold breeze the morning brought, and at the end of this game, Roodepoort emerged in a hard-fought draw.

Under U11 coach Quintin Sofianos said it took the whole team to dig deep and believe in each other to ensure that they come back on the field for the second game with their heads held high.

The second game against the Pirates was a highly anticipated showdown, and the boys were excited as they emerged victorious with a 56–0 victory.

The third game against the Pirates was a tough one, with Roodepoort leading 7–0 in the first 15 minutes. Pirates levelled the score at 7–7 at halftime. In the second half, the Pirates scored again, 12–7. Roodepoort fought hard, and the boys didn’t give up. A penalty near the try line allowed them to score 12 each in the last minute.

“We as coaches are so blessed and proud of the talent we have at the U11 Roodepoort Rugby Club. To have a contribution in these boys’ lives and to help them to work towards their goals is something I cannot explain; to see the joy on each boy’s face doing what they love is the best feeling a coach can have,” Quintin concluded.
