Fun-filled birthday bash for a good cause

Community comes together to to raise funds for one of their own.

Numerous community members came together to celebrate Shaun Majendie’s birthday and compete in Shaun’s Fun Day football festival.

According to Shaun’s sister Tayla Kennedy, the main objective of the festival, which took place on June 29, was to seek financial support for Shaun who suffered severe trauma and brain damage last October.

“Shaun was in the back seat, driving home with friends from a nearby garage in his neighbourhood. Coming around a sharp corner, the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a tree, causing the car to set alight. Shaun was rescued from the burning car and was unresponsive on the scene. He was later resuscitated by paramedics, who had to get advanced life support to deal with his condition. The other passengers sustained airbag injuries and were seen by the paramedics,” information on Shaun’s donation page reads.

Shaun sustained severe head injuries, skull and facial fractures, bleeding on the brain, and a collapsed lung. He was induced into a coma and incubated.

“Now, as things stand, he requires ongoing therapy as part of his rehab; he will also require another brain scan and neuro assessment. Sadly, he was not on medical aid at the time of the accident, thus the need for ongoing fundraising to cover the medical costs,” added Tayla.

The funds being raised are believed to help with Shaun’s rehabilitation expenses, which include:

• physiotherapy
• speech therapy
• occupational therapy
• trauma counselling
• full-time nursing
• chronic medication
• other expenses that may arise along the way

The family marked the event as a well-supported success. They managed to reach their goal and also had some generous donations come in. The family urges individuals to contact Sharmane Majendie-Kennedy via email at info@rates4u.co.za or send a WhatsApp to 082 703 5044 at any time for donations.
