Equestrians shine at Gauteng champs

Glover Paddocks riders compete at the showjumping provincial championships bringing back top three positions and new records.

The Western Shoppe and Gauteng Showjumping Provincial Championships were hosted at Kyalami Park Club on Saturday, June 8, where advanced riders showcased their form in showjumping within a time limit and a series of obstacles that had been designed for a particular show.

It was a gruelling affair with over a thousand riders, involving juniors and senior riders and their horses, competing over two days. Among the riders were Glover Paddocks’ riders, ready to dominate the course and make the West proud.

“It was a tough weekend for the riders, but they were more than determined to keep their heads high and do their best,” Kerryn Maher, director of Glover Paddocks said.

Chris Prinsloo on Seiss Antiqua made it to the podium in third place in the 1.2m junior championships. Tasmin Maher, the coach from Glover Paddocks, had a fabulous second and fifth place in the adults’ 1.2m championship in a very competitive round of 98 riders on her fantastic mare Leoni’s Glover.

Young pony rider Emily Loubser had a fantastic show on her pony Heather G, winning first place in round one and second place in the championship.

“Our riders did exceptionally well, and we are so proud of them. We always encourage them to take their mistakes as a learning curve for them to go back to the centre and improve their skills,” Kerryn added.
