School mourns the loss of homegrown talent

Local high school's alumnus and renowned actor remembered after untimely death.

Mpho Sebeng, a beloved figure in the world of entertainment, was involved in a fatal car accident in Potchefstroom on Sunday morning, May 5.

Sebeng attended West Ridge High School in Roodepoort and matriculated in 2011. The Roodepoort Record visited the school to speak to some of his teachers, and to get to know the kind of learner he was, and what good memories they shared with him during his time at the school. Milton Tendengu, his former teacher, says he is friends with Sebeng’s father and he knew Mpho on a more personal level.

“I met Mpho when he was doing Grade Nine at the school, he was a very quiet and intelligent person who loved acting,” Tendengu says. According to Tendengu, Mpho started acting while he was still at school and he was on TV since Grade Nine.

Okametse Sebata taught Mpho Business Studies and says, “He was full of life, there was never a dull moment with him. We are hurt about his passing.”

Sebata also went on to highlight that Sebeng used to offer counselling to other learners when he was part of the school’s Representative Council of Learners and looked at him as a teacher, always knowing that there was hope for the future because he was a very focused learner who knew what he wanted in life. Sebeng was not just a TV star, he was a symbol of hope and inspiration to others in the community. His journey serves as a beacon of possibility for countless dreamers who are inspired by his talent.

Though Sebeng may no longer be on Earth, his spirit will continue to inspire more generations to come and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his work and his presence.
