Honeydew hosts charity bowling tournament

The Honeydew Bowling Club held their annual charity bowling tournament in aid of the SA Guide Dogs Association on Sunday March 24.

The Honeydew Bowling Club held their annual fund raising tournament for the SA Guide Dogs Association on March 24. More than R7 000 was raised on the day for the SA Guide Dogs Association.

According to event organiser and selector for the Honeydew Bowling Club Orla Guilfoyle the event is held every year in memory of Allen Lewis-Williams, a former club member who was passionate about blind bowls.

“This is the tenth year that we have celebrated this day with our members and the SA Guide Dogs Association in remembrance of Allen,” she says, adding that the club is immensely grateful for the support they receive each year from participating members from other clubs, as well as local players.

This year, thew winning trophy went to Ian Butchard, Rob Jackson, and Frank Glodek, all from Honeydew Bowling Club.

Other clubs represented this year include Florida, Discovery, Randburg, and many more.

The trophy was presented to the winning team by Natalie Austen, the niece of the late Allen Lewis-Williams.

SA Guide Dogs Association public relations officer Pieter van Niekerk expressed his thanks for the donation, saying that this will go a long way toward funding the various initiatives of the association.
