Soccer action at Panorama

The Panorama Football Club hosted an exciting weekend of soccer.

The Panorama Soccer Club hosted both the Gauteng Women’s Development League and the Safa Gauteng’s Sasol League pre-season games on March 9 and 10.

The club grounds were packed with eager fans egging on their favourite teams from the top of their lungs.

The tournaments made for exciting viewing and some nail-biting moments as teams battled it out over the two-day competitions.

Day one of the epic tournament kicked off at 9am with the Sasol League and Nicko Taurus FA taking on Springs Home Sweepers. The team from Springs took the win relatively comfortably, claiming a 3–1 victory on field one.

Field two saw the Mito Stars taking on the University of Johannesburg. Mito Stars walked away victorious with 3–2.

Back on field one, Hallelujah Zebra Force started game two, taking on DK Ladies, with DK Ladies winning comfortably 1–3, while Wits University challenged the Blu Birds Ladies on field two. The game ended in a 2–2 draw, and the resulting Wits University came out on top from penalty shots.

Mathaithai FC did not make their scheduled match and thus automatically gave the walk-win to Kempton Park FC. Field two saw the Vikings Ladies take on FC Raycon. True to their name the Viking Ladies thrashed Raycon, finishing 3–2.

The next round of games saw Future Stars take on Croesus Ladies on field one, while JVW and NWU Vaal fought it out on field two. These games were won by Future Stars (3–2 and JVW 3–0) respectively.

Springs Home Sweepers took to the field for their second game of the day against Mito Stars on field one, with the former winning easily 3–1. On field two, Kempton Park FC thrashed Viking Ladies, also with 3–1.

The quarter-finals were battled out between DK Ladies and Wits University on field one, and Future Stars and JVW on field two. DK Ladies made numerous trips to the goalposts, beating Wits 6–0. Future Stars won their game with 3–2.

In the semi-finals, Mito Stars beat Kempton Park FC, and JVW took the win from under DK Ladies, matching up Mito Stars and JVW in the final match. JVW put up a strong performance against Mito Stars, securing the win.

In the Gauteng Women’s Development League games, Mamelodi Sundowns took on Origin FC, winning the game 4–1. JVW wiped the floor with Tornado FC, winning comfortably with 4–0.

Highlands Park took on the mighty Tuks and won after an epic battle took them into a penalty shootout and Panorama FC suffered a crushing 3–0 loss against RESA.

The semi-finals on day two saw Mamelodi Sundowns playing a very promising RESA. The scores ended up at 3–3, with the shootout going in the favour of Mamelodi.

JVW ladies trashed Highlands Park, taking a 4–0 victory home, leaving only two teams to battle it out in the final.

In the end, the team from Mamelodi got to hold up the trophy, winning 4–2, leaving JVW claiming a solid second place in the tournament.
