Many started the new year by keeping fit and healthy at the Ruimsig parkrun.
Tim Barker, the day’s run director, explained the turnout has been quite impressive with around 250 runners on December 30, about 180 on January 1, and 480 on January 6. He added he believes the numbers will pick up even more as people are committing to their New Year’s resolutions.
In total 19 volunteers helped to make the day possible. Thirty-six personal bests were recorded with 87 first-time runners trying their hand at the parkrun.
The first runner across the finish line was an unknown runner, the second was Matthew Williams with a time of 19:41, and the third in line was Robert Atkinson with a finishing time of 19:53.
For those who want to give the run a try, it is every Saturday at 8:00 free of charge, all in the name of keeping fit.
