One arrested in Muldersdrift as clandestine drug laboratory discovered

Muldersdrift police uncovered a drug lab while searching for a missing person in Lammermoor.

Half a million rands worth of drugs were confiscated while the Muldersdrift police followed up on a missing person’s case on a plot in Lammermoor on December 1.

According to Karen du Plessis from the West Rand Flying Squad, the West Rand K9 unit, Counter Narcotics Investigation Team, and Muldersdrift police members arrested one suspect for possession and cultivation of drugs.

This came about after the Mulderdrift police requested the assistance of the above-mentioned teams to help them track down a missing person, as the said person’s vehicle was found abandoned in Kagiso.

“The teams proceeded to a plot in Lammermoor on Beyers Naudé Drive where it was pointed out that the missing person resides in one of the dwellings on the plot,” stated Du Plessis.

She added that upon searching the dwelling, the body of the missing person was found tied up and wrapped in a blanket.

“Upon further investigation, members of West Rand K9 Unit found a male in a cottage behind the dwelling, allegedly busy with the cultivation/ manufacturing of drugs [magic mushrooms],” she elaborated, “the suspect was immediately arrested while the drugs and cultivating equipment estimated to the value of R500 000 were confiscated and booked in as exhibits.”

Du Plessis said that the scenes were processed by forensic services and necessary role players. Investigation continues in both cases.

“The 30-year-old suspect will be facing charges of manufacturing and dealing in drugs for which he will be appearing in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court,” concluded Du Plessis.
