Resident helps to clean up the community

The 23-year-old Francinah Maine cleaned the entire Sterretjie Street on her own, making a difference in the community.

Francinah Maine, a 23-year-old resident of Honeydew pulled up her sleeves and cleaned up Sterretjie Street.

Francinah explained she is originally from Lesotho but is currently staying in Honeydew. On November 17 Francinah single-handedly picked up the trash along Sterretjie Street as part of the Willowbrook, Ruimsig, Amarosa and Poortview Residents Association’s (WRAP RA) initiative to clean up their area.

“The first day I cleaned the street, it was not my intention but I did it and enjoyed it very much. It’s not such a big deal but it’s bringing change to the community. It’s a very good idea to WRAP for cleaning the street as it leads to good health for the community,” said Francinah.

WRAP RA chairperson, Martin van der Westhuisen explained previously they hire people in search of work to come and clean up the community, helping both the community and the residents.

Francinah noted she was standing at the traffic intersection in Ruimsig with a board offering to do people’s washing, ironing and cleaning, where Martin met her and asked her to come help them out.

“I would like everyone to be a part of the cleaning and I would also like to do more and more for the community,” concluded Francinah.
