Local tutor centre holds cancer walk

Tutor centre holds cancer walk to honour survivor, principal Kobie van Zyl who overcame breast and thyroid cancer.

A cancer walk to honour past survivors – specifically the principal of Swan Academy Tutor Centre, Kobie van Zyl – was a success which saw the learners participating in a two to four-round walk around Horison Park on 27 October.

Maureen Blake Stander, Ryan Mcmurray, Johanette de Waal, Danie Scholtz, Zelda Haak and Ruan Viljoen.

It was excitement galore as the learners geared up in their pink outfits to participate in the walk which saw 75 learners, dogs from Help24’s K9 Unit and tutors looping around the park with their survival packs in a bid to raise awareness around the issue of cancer.

Alonzo Bloem, Dan Orban, Kaylin Williams, Tristan Bahrends and Luke Beneke.

“Our principal/ owner bravely fought breast and thyroid cancer and has finally been given the all-clear, so to honour her and because October was Cancer Awareness Month, Swan Academy decided to do a big walk,” Angie Beneke, one of the tutors said.
