Johannesburg West sub-district arrest 80 suspects in weekend blitz

Numerous random searches were conducted, totaling 241 vehicles and 494 persons.

Police from stations falling under the Johannesburg West sub-district recorded multiple weekend successes.

Special operations were carried out between 19 and 21 May, yielding 80 arrests and just over R40 000 worth of fines for various offenses. The Johannesburg West sub-district comprises the Roodepoort, Florida, Honeydew, Cosmo City, Randburg, Linden, Diepsloot and Douglasdale policing precincts.

Suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, crimen injuria, theft, fraud, selling liquor without a license, tampering with municipal or essential infrastructure, pointing of a firearm and for contravention of the Immigration Act.

Numerous random searches were conducted, totaling 241 vehicles and 494 persons. Five fines were issued for non-compliance to second-hand goods dealers which totaled an amount of R2 500. Aarto fines to the cumulative value of R36 850 were issued to 37 non-compliant motorists and R3 900 worth of J534 admission of guilt fines were issued to nine people for being drunk in public.

All arrest suspects are set to appear before the respective magistrates’ courts.
