Florida Lake development breaks grounds

Meeting held with stakeholders regarding the development at Florida Lake.

There was a meeting held at Florida Lake regarding the upgrade that will be taking place.

According to Sifiso Kunene from the ATI Foundation, the purpose of the meeting, which was held on Tuesday, February 28, was to introduce and inform residents about the project as well as explain the different phases of the project.

“The main objective of the space is to make sure that it is functional, it creates community cohesion and we make sure that there are economic opportunities and output as well,” said Kunene.

Currently, they are busy with phase one of the development which includes the entrance section and the children’s play area, where they have started to dig.

Phase two of the project includes the golf and putt-putt area. There will also be a restaurant with a gym on top and a driving range covered with nets to catch the balls and a few creative, non-permanent structures to sit in.

Phase three of the project will include the tennis courts, which are currently not being used.

“We want to make sure there is a new look, new activity, new feel to the space, to make sure everyone benefits accordingly and relevantly,” said Kunene.

According to Rupert September, there will also be a security team on the premises 24/7 to ensure the safety of every person.
