According to JMPD Spokesperson, torrential rain has left some of the roads in the city flooded and with structural damage.

“Motorists are warned to be aware of roads that are prone to flooding in the Roodepoort area, and these include Westlake/ Hull, Goldman/ Sauer, and Louis Botha Road close to Golf Club Terrace and Albertina Sisulu Road near the dip at Florida Lake,” said Fihla.

Motorists are also warned to avoid roads closed off to traffic due to structural damage, these include, Hendrick Potgieter Road between Van De Kloof and Johan Road in Little Falls and Kilburn Street near Syd Dwyer Road in Discovery, Roodepoort.

Fihla said that motorists are obliged to adhere to all the rules of the road and avoid extremely flooded roads and low-lying bridges that they come across because the vehicle can get swept away and be at risk of drowning.

“If you’re caught in a flash flood, do not drive through or over a flooded road or bridge.

Turn back and try a higher route and don’t stay in the flooded area, if your vehicle is surrounded by water, get out and seek higher ground.

If you are stranded in a tree or building, don’t leave it to enter the flood water,” added Fihla.
