Local schools clash in Cluster A athletics meeting

The Cluster A event is set to be followed by the Cluster B event on Thursday, February 9, the Cluster C event on Friday, February 10 and the Cluster D event on Monday, February 13.

Wednesday, February 8 saw Laerskool Roodekrans play host to several local primary schools for the Cluster A athletics meeting held at Ruimsig Athletic Stadium.

Horizon Primary School, Laerskool Die Ruiter, Laerskool Gustav Preller, Laerskool Dr Havinga, Florida Primary School, Discovery Primary Full-Service School, and Laerskool Roodekrans locked horns to secure a sport in the following round of the athletics programme.

Despite the rain that came down occasionally, the event gave all the athletes in the cluster the opportunity to showcase their talent and compete against each other.

Earlier during the week, officials from the hosting school were hard at work getting the stadium ready as well as the track for the day.

The Cluster A event is set to be followed by the Cluster B event on Thursday, February 9, the Cluster C event on Friday, February 10 and the Cluster D event on Monday, February 13.

The event saw learners from as young as U7 up to U13 (boys and girls) compete in various items such as high jump, 100m, 1 200m, and hurdles to name but a few.

According to the organisers, schools first compete against one another in their districts and the best athletes will then be selected to participate in a district-level event to be held at a later stage.
