The Northside welcomes two Christmas babies into the world

According to the Department of Health, 1 414 babies were born on Christmas Day - 746 boys and 668 girls.

On Christmas Day last year, two Northside couples celebrated the birth of their first child! On December 25, the Van Tonders and Van Zyls welcomed two beautiful baby boys into their families.

Dawid van Zyl was born to Juné van Zyl at 12:18 on Sunday, December 25 at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.

Both babies arrived as a Christmas surprise.

“I was due in early January, so we didn’t expect our son, Diaan, to be born on Christmas Day,” Deoné van Tonder said after giving birth at 3:09.

Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital’s Maternity Unit delivered both babies.

Diaan Sybrand van Tonder was born to Deoné van Tonder at 3:09 on Sunday, December 25 at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.

“When the contractions started on Christmas Eve, I asked my mom to wash one of the ‘My First Christmas’ onesies because I knew Dawid would be wearing it the next day,” Juné van Zyl exclaimed gleefully as she looked down at her newborn.

Both babies are healthy and surrounded by love from their parents and other family members. While Christmas is often marked by loved ones sharing and opening gifts purchased for one another, these two boys are certainly gifts from above.
