Rusty Hook’s 8ball pool teams dominate 2022

Club aiming to grow the sport in the area with an emphasis on youth.

Rusty Hook Pool Club picked up several accolades at the end of season district awards.

Western Gauteng 8Ball Pool Federation (WGPF) held its annual prize-giving on December 3 at Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord. The Rusty Hook team went back to headquarters with plenty trophies after picking up two team awards and six individual nods.

The club entered two teams in separate district divisions, Assassins playing in the Vets league and Razzlers featuring in the A division. Both teams achieved first place in their respective division with Assassins captain Alki Koutouvides describing the year as extremely exciting and challenging. The competition was tight as there was little to separate the top four teams.

Alki added a congratulations to everyone who played a role in making this year a success for 8-ball pool.

On the individual front, Gary Hulme collected trophies for placing second in his division and third in the WGPF Top16 challenge.

Alki placed second in the WGPF Draw Doubles while Michael Paterson finished second in his league. Ricky Reddy rounded out the prizes with a second place finish in the WGPF Vets Championship and second in the Mixed Doubles champs. Ricky also served as a referee at the 2022 South African Masters 2022.

“Although there were a number of individuals who played league for the first time, they showed dedication, passion and sportsmanship for the game. I’m proud of the team’s achievement in their first year of playing,” said Ricky, Captain of the A division Razzlers.

Both captains aim to promote the sport with an emphasis on youth.

8Ball Pool is not a bar social sport but a recognised sporting code in South African Athletics Federation where players can receive their national colours and compete internationally.
