Attendees heard a sermon from Pastor Morris before the unveiling of the monument that was followed by the reading of names as well as a moment of silence and the laying of flowers.

When asked where did the idea come from, Pastor Morris said that the Lord spoke to him about the idea and when they started organising, everything just worked out in their favour – even getting a stand at the graveyard.

“The significance of the occasion on Davidsonville residence is that since our community is a close-knitted community, we all work together and when one is hurt, we all are hurt.

“This shows unity and remembers those we lost; not everyone was buried in Davidsonville, but the memorial stone is just in memory of our loved ones for generations to come; this will be an annual,” Pastor Morris explained.

The first memorial monument was in erected in 2021 and according to Pastor Morris, It was a clear word from the Lord that he must erect a memorial monument for the people of Davidsonville.

In 2020 and 2021 the community of Davidsonville lost over 130 people and there was no money for the project but against all odds, it turned out to be a success.

The organisers managed to get a sponsor from one the community members thanks to Pastor Mecuur and contributions from the community.

“This is now a yearly event and every year we will add names on the memorial monument,” said Pastor Morris.
