Pet store at popular Weltevreden Park strip mall robbed at gunpoint

Suspect escapes with R5 000 in cash as well as handbag of female staff member.

A pet store at a large Weltevreden Park strip mall was the scene of an armed robbery on November 7.

Statements given to police suggest three people, two men and one woman, entered the popular store some time between 10:00 and 11:00 under the guise of being customers. One of the men then approached the cashier and revealed his firearm before demanding all the cash from the tills. The female on duty at the till point duly complied and the man left the store with roughly R5 000 in cash.

Additionally, the armed man snatched the female employee’s handbag making off with her bank cards, ID and driver’s licence. Honeydew police confirmed the armed man as well as his two companions left the area in a grey Toyota Corolla and urged anyone who may have any information on the suspects to please report that as soon as possible.
