A successful charity run held for day care centre

“There was a moment that I felt very emotional because I started to see the children’s faces in my mind and started to cry."

On Saturday, October 29 Sameul Cornelius took on the charity nine-hour circuit run from the Roodepoort Athletics Club’s Ampie Barnard Tennis Courts in Roodepoort, Horison.

EXP Medical Centres, Roodepoort Athletics Club and Sameul organised the charity run for Pandabeertjie Day Care Centre who are under great pressure as they are providing basic necessities out of their own pocket.

According to Sameul, the day went very well as he started off in the rain that was accompanied by big strong winds and later on the weather changed nicely presenting him with favourable running conditions.

He admits that he started too fast in the beginning and in four hours he had already done 50km but after that he started to slow down and ran a slow pace of six minutes per km.

“There was a moment that I felt very emotional because I started to see the children’s faces in my mind and started to cry. My employers organised a braai and when I started to struggle my friends, family and the Roodepoort Athletics Club runners helped to motivate and keep me running. I just want to thank Exp Medical Centre and Roodepoort Athletics Club for helping me and thank my mother-in-law Theresa Botha and my wife Theresa Cornelius as well as my boy that was helping me the whole day,” said Sameul.

Sameul also said a special thanks to his boss Francois Rothner who believe in him as well as Annelie Nel and Linda Louw.

Sameul reminded members of the community that any donations or non-perishable foods are still welcome for those who want to make a difference in the lives of others.
