Progress under way in the Lutz-Dalkeith electricity infrastructure upgrade project

Five kilometres of cables to be laid across three wards taking an estimated 16 months.

The first signs of progress are underway in the Ward 97 electricity upgrade project.

Ground was broken on October 3 for the project that will see five kilometres of cable laid to link the Lutz Substation in Deysel Road with the Dalkeith Substation just off Marina Street in Cosmo City. Once completed, the added infrastructure will lighten the load on the Peter Road and Christian de Wet Road substations that strenuously service most of Ward 97.

Officials are aiming for the The Lutz-Dalkeith project to be completed in 16 months, unplanned delays permitting. Community Liaison Officer (CLO) Lesego Selela began his work on September 1 and since then an additional 26 staff have been added. The work spans three wards and as such, the employment opportunities are spread proportionally between them. Of the 26 positions, 11 were allocated for ward 97 residents, 10 from Ward 100 and five more from Ward 104.

Each new recruit completed a medical examination and part of their training entailed hazard identification, risk assessment, construction regulations and incident investigation, among other areas.

Currently, work is progressing well and status updates will be given periodically to the ward councillor and ward committee members responsible for infrastructure.
