Wellness Day held at Florida police station

According to Tsotetsi the Wellness Day was held right in front of the police station to make sure that the service is accessible to the community after being assisted at the Community Service Centre (CSC).

On Friday, September 23 community and police members under the leadership of Florida Police Station commander Colonel Amos Tsotetsi participated in the Florida SAPS Wellness Day that was held in the station’s front parking area.

Various health tests were done, among them blood pressure, cholesterol, Pap smears, testosterone, HIV and AIDS, and the attendees received vitamin boosters and advice on maintaining a healthy body.

The event was also attended by representatives of the Office of the MEC for Safety and Security, MEDIX Pharmacy, City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), IEC, Department of Health, Florida CPF and the ward councillor.

The purpose of the day was to promote employee’s health and wellness as well as to destress and encourage members to look after themselves by going to gym, maintaining a healthy diet and checking their status regularly.

According to Tsotetsi the Wellness Day was held right in front of the police station to make sure that the service is accessible to the community after being assisted at the Community Service Centre (CSC).

Tsotetsi said that the Employee Wellness Programme has a vision of providing programmes that can develop and maintain healthy, dedicated, responsive and productive employees within the public service who can add value to the SAPS and the community of Florida.

“Wellness Day is about healthy living. It focuses on quality of life by attending to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of employees, nurtures an individual as a totality, provides a change of environment from the office set-up, provides the opportunity to explore complementary therapies such as massage, music and counselling to assist the employees to cope in the workplace, and offers a continuing lifetime support.

“The mission is to build and maintain a healthy workforce for increased productivity and excellent service delivery, and that individual participation in the wellness day promotes sharing and provides an opportunity to engage in activities that bring meaning and value to daily living, as well as individual wellness by checking BMI, cholesterol and blood pressure, and promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Tsotetsi.
