SPCA says goodbye to their beloved Patches

'She made us smile when the day had been long and sad, when the public were rude and we just wanted to run away.'

Pets are our friends and some are even like family. Sadly, our pets do not live as long as we do, and so, saying goodbye to a beloved companion is never easy.

On Wednesday, August 30 the SPCA Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp took to social media after Patches, the ‘office gargoyle’ sadly had passed on. ‘Gargoyle’ symbolises ‘guardianship’ of the building and the warding off of evil spirits. For this SPCA she did just that.

“We said our final goodbye to our oldest office guardian,” the post read.

For well over 15 years Patches had been known to guard the SPCA reception.

“The only payment she ever asked for was a saucer of milk in the morning. No one dare ignore her, if you did you would get a slap on the ankle reminding you that she was there,” it said.

In the post they also thanked the special feline for always being around to put a smile on their faces.

“She made us smile when the day had been long and sad, when the public were rude and we just wanted to run away.”

Patches also reminded the team why they were there and who they were protecting. She will be dearly missed by the passionate SPCA team.
