According to the Club’s chairperson Tessa Shellard, the special event was held to acknowledge and wish the pink team runners embarking on the 89km journey from Maritzburg to Durban on Sunday, August 28.

“All the best! Gijimani kahle (run well), our brave men and women from Florida Running Club. We are with you in spirit,” said Shellard.

Runners and supporters from the local running clubs who will be following the Comrades Marathon can expect an exciting comeback of the world’s biggest, oldest and most famous ultramarathon, come Sunday.

Participating runners from the club will be standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of other runners at the start line in Pietermaritzburg.

“Listening to the cock crow and Chariots of Fire resounding in the background, be grateful that you are healthy enough to be part of this magnificent race.

“Know how proud we, the pink team are of you, and thank you for flying the pink flag,” said Shellard.
