Jar of Hope ingredients needed for Mandela Day Community Project

Members of the community who would like drop off donations for the Jar of Hope are encouraged to contact Esmie Liebenberg on 082 427 1168 or Carin van der Schyf on 082 371 3434.

Community members, volunteers and charity organisations align their development projects with Mandela Day on July 18 and in addition to this, many aim to add to the goals of sustainable community development throughout the year.

On Mandela Day this year a few community members in Roodepoort want to offer families hope and solace by giving them a Jar of Hope as part of their Mandela Day Community Project on July 18.

A Jar of Hope is a jar packed with nourishing ingredients that are added to boiling water to make an easy, wholesome meal that can easily feed four people.

According to the organisers Carin van der Schyf, Esmie Liebenberg, Karabo Manyama and Elmari Atterbury-Nel, they want to remind the community of the many opportunities to get involved in making an impact (for 67 minutes or more) on Mandela Day.

“We believe in service above self. One jar can feed four people and provides a warm meal in the cold weather. To help us achieve our goal of giving 134 jars, we are asking members of the community to donate ingredients,” said Esmie.

The Mandela Day Community Project aims to fill 134 jars (2 x 67) to provide a wholesome meal for needy members of the community of Regions B and C within the City of Johannesburg.

Members of the community who would like to drop off donations for the Jar of Hope are encouraged to contact Esmie Liebenberg on 082 427 1168 or Carin van der Schyf on 082 371 3434.
