Maharaj sisters are Crawford’s secret chess weapons

"We have the very talented Maharaj sisters that are making powerful moves to the top."

Crawford International Ruimsig is very proud of their chess results this season.

“We have the very talented Maharaj sisters who are making powerful moves to the top,” said Gerda Kies from Crawford International Ruimsig.
Anaamika Maharaj was invited to join the U/13 Gauteng Schools chess team that played in the SA Schools Chess Championships.

She won four out of six chess games and is now rated number 11 in SA Schools Chess. She is part of the Gauteng team that won gold in Bloemfontein. In the Gauteng Individual Schools Chess Championships, Anaamika won four out of five games and was rated number seven in U/13 girls.

In the Gauteng Individual Schools Chess Championship the U/11 undefeated champion is Aditi Maharaj. She won the Roodepoort Cluster and D12 Chess Championships to qualify for the Gauteng Individuals, without losing a single game. Aditi is now rated number one.

Their sister, Arya Maharaj is ranked number 11 in Gauteng Individuals Schools Chess Championships, although she also won four out of five games. As Victor Kortchnoi said, “Those who think that it’s easy to play chess are mistaken. During a game, players live on their nerves, and at the same time they must be perfectly composed.”
