Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) recognised the outstanding efforts of four of Honeydew police’s officers on May 25. Constables Uys, Ngwatoana, Magongwa and Makhwebe were the March recipients of the Goodwill Shield Award as they were presented with the wooden crest and certificates by Honeydew CPF PRO, Michael Steyn.

The incident that earned the officers praise was the apprehension of housebreaking suspects on March 17. They had robbed several residents in Cosmo City and upon being reported, the officers tracked the suspects to Itsoseng informal settlement.

Once spotted, the suspects opened fire on the officers who duly returned fire. No injuries were reported as they apprehended two of the suspects, recovering all the stolen items while seizing housebreaking implements and an illegal firearm with ammunition.

The Goodwill Shield Award is given monthly to members of the station who display exemplary work ethic or service to the community. Nominated and voted for by fellow officers, the award is a way to highlight the best of the badge who set an example to their peers. As well as the certificates, the officers took home a R300 gift card sponsored by residents associations, Constantia Kloof North and Constantia Village.

Handing the award to the officers, Michael elaborated on the significance of the shield, saying, “We take this as a serious award that is given to the best. It is great to acknowledge the good work done by police and it is to say thank you to the members for going over and above the call of duty.”
