This was the first time Triple Threat had sent these fighters to the nationals and naturally their coach was overjoyed with their performance.

“We didn’t really expect this. If we came back with one champ we would have been ecstatic. We knew we were good enough to compete but didn’t know the level we could be competitive at,” said Wade.

Three juniors and three seniors made the trip with neither disappointing. Chloe Assad and Tebogo Molefe won gold in the under 55kg and under 63kg kick-light categories respectively, while Thomas Junior won gold in the under 60kg low-kick category. Thando Mahlango rounded out the single gold medallists with victory in the under 60kg low-kick category.
