Cable thief caught in the act in Helderkruin

According to City Power, their security was only made aware of the situation on Thursday, May 19 when the Record enquired about the incident.

On Monday, May 16 a Beagle Watch response officer apprehended a suspect in connection with cable theft in Helderkruin.

It is alleged that while the response officer was on patrol in Helderkruin he spotted someone removing cables.

The officer immediately investigated what the man was doing and apprehended him on the spot. He called for immediate back-up and the suspect was handed over to the Roodepoort Police.

According to City Power, their security was only made aware of the situation on Thursday, May 19 when the Record enquired about the incident.

They investigation revealed that the Beagle Watch response officer handed over the suspect to the police and unfortunately, they could not get more information on this issue.

“Details are important for our teams to help with their planning and where to beef up our security strategies. We urge local enforcement agencies and community neighbourhood watchers always to report matters to City Power on 011 490 7900/ 7911 as well as to the police.

“We commend the role played by the communities and neighbourhood watch private security in assisting us to protect our infrastructure. In recent times we have seen an increase in the number of arrests, with most of them because of the collaboration we have with the communities,” said City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.
