Structures demolished in Zandspruit illegal land invasion operation

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that three unoccupied brick and mortar structures were demolished and removed during the operation.

On Tuesday, May 17 Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers together with Honeydew Police and Full Service Security conducted an illegal land invasion operation in Zandspruit informal settlement.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that three unoccupied brick and mortar structures were demolished and removed during the operation.

He further told the Northsider that compliance is not negotiable and that residents should abide by the rules.

“Illegal land invasion remains a serious scourge in the City of Johannesburg where we see people illegally occupying pieces of land without approval from the legal owners of the land, the City or the Provincial Government.

“We encourage members of the public who witness or have any information regarding illegal land invasion to call the Anti-Land Invasion Hotline 080 012 0555,” said Fihla.
