Dorah’s Ark receives much-needed donations

"This is one of the homes that Roodepoort Police Station has adopted, and we have been with them for the last 17 years from the time Dorah was still alive."

Donating and volunteering your time to support a cause you are passionate about is something you will never regret. It will enrich your life, familiarise you with your community, and connect you to people and ideas that will positively impact your perspective for the rest of your life.

On Friday, May 13 Roodepoort Police together with JC Security visited Dorah’s Ark children’s shelter and demonstrated that helping your community is an opportunity to grow as a person as well as to better understand how you fit into the world around you.

The children were spoiled with goodies ranging from toys, candy, toiletries, blankets and groceries courtesy of JC Security who continues to immerse themselves in their community.

According to Marcus Elliah from JC Security, their team decided to spend the day with the children at Dorah’s Ark just to bring some joy into their lives.

“I think it is very important that we understand that companies based within a community should give back to the welfare organisations that exist in the area. It’s an absolute pleasure to be here today just to make sure that we bless this home for the great work they are doing. There are so many unfortunate people out there and we as a company wanted to step in and give back. We would also consider doing this more often just to see the smiles on the faces of the kids and the staff,” said Marcus.

Roodepoort Police Station’s Angie Arjuna who was also present on the day said they are involved in charity work four to five times a year, especially to assist local shelters.

According to Angie, the station collaborates with local businesses to try and give back to the community as it is also a great way to get to know your community.

“Today we have JC Security joining us at Dorah’s Ark to spend time and try to interact with the kids. Normally you would hear that children are homeless but when you come in to visit them at the shelters and see for yourself, it is a different scenario.

“The company has never been to shelters but they have always sponsored some. This time around we wanted them to see the situation and hope that more can happen in the future.

“This is one of the homes that Roodepoort Police Station has adopted, and we have been with them for the last 17 years from the time Dorah was still alive. I have always promised her that even when she is gone, I will take care of the home. I also visit with my family occasionally just to see where we can assist,” said Angie.
