Braamfischer Clinic patients no longer referred to Discoverers

Decision aims to give patients access to health services closer to their community

Patients using Braamfischer Clinic for referrals are urged to take note of this important announcement.

As of Monday, April 4, Braamfischer Clinic patients will no longer be referred to Discoverers Clinic; instead, they will be referred to Itireleng Community Health Centre (CHC). All patients will need to bring their referral forms, and a form of identification, as due to the high volume of patients that visit Itireleng CHC, the clinic will be unable to attend to patients who do not meet these requirements.

Braamfischerville Clinic is situated in Region C and has been referring patients to a fellow Region C facility, Discoverers Clinic. The Health Department has determined that this referral system impacts negatively on patients, especially pregnant mothers, and sought a closer option. A decision was thus taken to change the referral pathway to Itireleng CHC in Dobsonville, which is more easily accessible for the Bram Fischerville community.

Ward 44 councillor, Mthuthuzeli Tefu, highly appreciated this initiative, saying, “I am grateful about the decision taken to address patients’ referral issue. Now, referred patients will not have to travel 20 kilometres to Discoverers, but will be attended to at their nearest CHC. I request Bram Fischerville community members to use their clinic and go to Itireleng CHC only when they are referred.”

The Braamfischerville Clinic was opened in March 2017 and has since provided the community with an easily accessible point of medical treatment. Continuing that vision, this decision will alleviate the stress and frustrations of having to travel very long distances to access free primary health care services.
