Matla A Bana has done it again

The packs are given to girls aged between five and 12 when they report sexual crimes to the police.

Martin Luther King Jr once said no work is insignificant, followed by the words, “All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance, and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence”.

By adhering to the wisdom of this well-known social activist, Matla A Bana Gauteng, with more than 20 volunteers, recently packed an astonishing 1 000 comfort packs at Mosaïek Church.

Matla A Bana is a registered non-profit organisation aimed at helping children who are victims of rape and other forms of abuse.

These projects are hosted on a regular basis in efforts to distribute the comfort packs to police stations all over the country. The packs are given to girls aged between five and 12 when they report sexual crimes to the police.

This time around the comfort packs will be distributed among five province’s FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) Units. According to project manager, Lizel van Eeden 450 packs will be distributed in Gauteng, 150 in the North West, 150 in the Free State, 150 in Limpopo and 100 in Mpumalanga.

These packs will make a direct impact in the lives of the girl victims of sexual abuse.

“We hope that these comfort packs also restore their honour and dignity once received. The need for this project remains great. All the provinces that receive the parcels will only have stock for about one month,” Lizel said.

“The units are always grateful for this tool to make the victim’s experience with the reporting process more positive. We are grateful to our loyal sponsor Absa Trust as well as Mosaïek for the venue, volunteers and administration.”

With GBV being a priority crime in the country Matla A Bana wished to emphasise the importance of being a voice against child abuse, and urge community members to report abuse.
