Runners feel inspired as Ruimsig parkrun is back in full swing

Since Christmas Day falls on a Saturday there will not be a parkrun on the 25th; however, on New Year’s Day, which is also on a Saturday, there will be a run so that people can start practicing their new year’s resolutions very early.

Saturday, November 27 saw event 80 of the Ruimsig parkrun back in full swing after the return of parkrun on October 30.

On the day 77 parkrunners braved the cold weather and wet conditions while Robbie Stutterheim from Bronberrik parkrun who volunteered as one of the tail walkers completed his 100th parkrun.

“Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, who in spite of the cold weather were there to assist. We appreciate you very much,” said Ruimsig parkrun Event Director Carin van der Schyf.

Earlier this year Ruimsig parkrun announced that they would be reverting back to the original route, as the gate (over the bridge) that caused major problems with the flow of the event disappeared during hard lockdown.

“We have added the dos and don’ts for the return to parkrun, and urge all runners to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations as non-compliance is not an option. We also appeal to our loyal parkrunners to consider volunteering, as we will need more volunteers due to the Covid-19 regulations. We all know that no parkrun can exist without volunteers,” said Carin.

According to the organisers of the Ruimsig parkrun, since Christmas Day falls on a Saturday there will not be a parkrun on the 25th; however, on New Year’s Day, which is also on a Saturday, there will be a run so that people can start practicing their new year’s resolutions very early.

Ruimsig parkrun is a free weekly timed event that takes place at 8am every Saturday at Handicap Road, Ruimsig, Roodepoort.
