On Monday, November 22 the DA’s Florence Roberts was sworn in officially as the Ward 83 councillor.
Her areas include Roodekrans, Wilro Park, Helderkruin and Breaunanda. Florence was appointed as ward councillor in July 2019 and even though the last two years proved challenging due to Covid-19, they have been productive.
Some of her highlights as councillor:
• The Wilro Park Substation was opened formally, resulting in the ward experiencing the least number of power failures.
• A sewerage upgrade by Joburg Water is underway in Roodekrans to resolve a long-standing sewerage problems.
• The Manie Mulder Adventure Park has been a huge life-threatening issue over the last six years with illegal entry and almost 25 drownings as a result. The DA put the Department of Community Development on notice and laid a charge of culpable homicide against MMC Margaret Arnolds. Just recently the necessary cautionary signage was put up, prohibiting baptisms in the waterfall lake. There is also an upgrade of the facility underway which will enhance the park for residents’ enjoyment.
Her vision for the ward has always been to build caring communities where residents can live, work and play safely and harmoniously.
“It’s a mission that I’m working very hard to achieve in Ward 83, and our neighbours have the same goals. My community partner – The Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch – plays a vital role in achieving this goal. Their community service is highly appreciated. Of course my vision also includes successful and efficient service delivery for Ward 83’s hardworking ratepayers,” she said.
Florence added that the community could rely on her to continue offering the same excellent service during the next five years. She enjoys working on the ground and getting her hands dirty, ensuring and facilitating proper service delivery.
