Recent crime stats show a drop in Honeydew crimes

“It’s clear that hard work by our members at Honeydew Police, security companies and the CPF patrollers is paying off."

On Friday, November 19 the police released the quarter-two crime statistics for the period July 2021 to September 2021.

The crime figures presented on the day are from cases reported to the police during the 2021 financial year.

Focusing on one area in Gauteng, the crime statistics reflected a massive decrease in different crime categories within the Honeydew precinct.

Honeydew Police Station is placed at number three among the top 30 stations on the crime statistics chart in terms of serious crimes after seeing an impressive decline of about 14.6% in the numbers of these crimes.

“It’s clear that hard work by our members at Honeydew Police, security companies and the CPF patrollers is paying off. If we look at a few years ago when Honeydew Police Station was ranked at number one in terms of all the crimes, we have seen a fantastic decline in all crime across the board,” said Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) PRO Michael Steyn.

Speaking at the release of the statistics on Friday, Police Minister General Bheki Cele said 6 163 people were killed in South Africa during that period – 1 056 more than the number of people killed during the corresponding period in the previous financial year.

According to Cele, civil unrest that claimed the lives of 342 people in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in July, contributed to the increase in murders reflected in the police’s latest crimes statistics.
