Maraisburg Bowls Club do their part from CANSA

All funds raised went to cancer care and research

There are many ways to unite but nothing promotes solidarity for a cause like the sporting community.

When one sees large groups of people covered in pink, there is no doubt that the spirit of giving is present. Maraisburg Bowls Club held a cancer awareness day on October 24, as a show of support for those near and dear, as well as anyone across South Africa who may be suffering with the dreaded disease.

Described as an emotional day, bowlers, friends, family and caring community members came out in numbers in support of their cancer warriors. Fundraising for cancer research, care and those fighting the battle was the primary aim, with a Shavathon, hair-colouring, raffles and of course, bowls, all doing a little bit to raise a big figure.

“Thank you to the Maraisburg members, their families and friends who were able to raise R7 000 towards the CANSA Drive this year. We appreciate every one of you! Keep your light shining, you are in our hearts every day!” said club member Tracey de Rapper. Quoting boxing legend, Mohammed Ali, Tracey concluded, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth”.
