Car and sound enthusiasts blow the neigbourhood down with treble and bass

Fortnightly events to be hosted by Pure Venom Group for the remainder of 2021

Back from a lengthy coronavirus-enforced lay-off, Pure Venom Group have returned to the streets of Roodepoort to blow the community away with eye-popping visuals and spine-rattling audio. The first of their return-tour events was held at the West Side Hookah Lounge at 173 Ontdekkers Road on August 21, combining the love of cars with an automobile-themed market.

What better way exists to appreciate the sensory delights of modified as well as standard four-wheeled treasures than to put them in a car park and judge who’s is the best. With over 100 trophies to give away to the best examples of automobile showmanship, Pure Venom’s president, Kevin Stone, was keen to show appreciation for every niche within the modification world.

Kevin, whose own marquee vehicle is styled after the classic horror character, Stephen King’s IT, handed out seven awards in the Show and Shine category. Werner Meyer won best Vintage and best Original, Yolanda Struwig won best Modified, with best Looks and best Low-limbo going to Phillip Kotze. Etienne de Waal and Jannie Botha won the Park-off and Night-glow categories, respectively.

In the neighbourhood-shaking audio Sound-off division, 13 separate award categories acknowledged every type of audio configuration and technician from rookies to seasoned ear-drum abusers. Jannie Botha was declared the overall sound winner but it was Barend Jonker who topped the charts with the loudest configuration notching up a deafening 151.4db in the bass boxing event.
