Lions with a vision

The aim is to raise 100 000 coins to sponsor spectacles.

Wilro Park — There is no better gift than the gift of sight, or in this case improved sight. That’s why the Lions Club – Wilro Park is hosting another community service project, which forms part of their five Pillars of Service.

According to Service Committee chairperson, Lion René Benjamin, the aim is to raise 100 000 coins to sponsor spectacles for those in need. This will be done by collecting the coins over a 12-month period.

#Seethechange is the tag line that will be used for this project.

“The Lions Club – Wilro Park members are the custodians of this project, as another three clubs are also collaborating with the Roodepoort Eye Clinic. They are the Krugersdorp, Roodepoort and Helderkruin Lions Clubs,” René said.

“The Eye Clinic will send the referrals of the beneficiaries to Paul Moldovanos Optometrists in Roodepoort. This process is free. But when the spectacles are made according to the optometrist’s assessments, they cost R200 each. While that does not sound like a lot, for some it is. This project will raise funds to sponsor spectacles for both young and old beneficiaries in need,” René explained.

Collecting the coins can be done in two ways. Participants can use their own container to collect donation at their respective locations. Or, the Lions can provide branded collection cans, which will be collected when full.

A poster will also be provided for placement within the respective premises.

“The aim is to encourage families, churches, schools, clubs, communities and business to see the change with us and raise funds.”

These Lions clubs are encouraging members of the community to put that small change to good use and help someone to see better.
