Libraries reopened on July 28

Basic service resumes until risk of infection is lower

Finally the time has come to recycle those library books collecting dust on the shelf.

Most libraries in the City of Johannesburg reopened their doors on Wednesday, July 28. With the exception of Brixton, Ennerdale Extension Nine and Johannesburg City libraries, all other libraries will be offering basis services between 9:00 and 16:00 every Monday to Friday.

The public will be allowed to borrow and return books, as well as use the library as a place to study. Telephonic reference inquiries and the access of Wi-Fi within library parameters with strict social distancing protocols will also be allowed. The full library service will resume once the City of Johannesburg has deemed the risk of infection low enough to allow such.

Should there be any challenges associated with the ongoing health crisis or water supply to the libraries, the relevant libraries can be closed at short notice.
