South Africa is one of the top three among the 10 countries with the highest crime rates globally. Unfortunately, we all have a story of being a victim of crime or if you are lucky, you know someone who has been a victim of crime.
Waygard Drift Security released the current crime trends to keep you aware and safe. Their busiest nights are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays when most criminal activity takes place. The company said between three and six thugs usually work together. “We believe at least three people keep a lookout.”
They advised residents never to go outside when they hear their dogs barking. They should rather contact their security company or the police, or send an alert on the WhatsApp group. Pistols are often used as the weapon of choice, however, incidents involving shotguns were noted in the last week.
Incidents of fences being cut have increased on several properties. Inspect fences daily as they are often cut for easy access and for exit points. Many of the incidents in recent weeks have taken place in Rietfontein. “In Steinvlei, Driefontein, a portion of Swartkops, Kromdraai, and in a portion of Ruimsig we have noticed increased fence-cutting. We urge the public to remain vigilant.”
