Ruimsig Mrs Universe Africa semi-finalist starts her journey

"Should I win the pageant I will continue on the journey of working with these children, and hopefully build them a library.”

Ruimsig resident, Louwella Moeti is over the moon after being informed last month that she had made the cut as a Mrs Universe Africa 2021 semi-finalist.

The East London born mother of two boys is confident that she will be amongst the finalists who will be named in August.

The theme for Mrs Universe Africa 2021 is ‘The essence of African Women’, which is motivated by the approaching Women’s Month. The director of the pageant is former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala.

Through her journey as a semi-finalist, Louwella will be working with two charities, Teenage girls from Soweto to distribute sanitary towels, underwear and cosmetics. The other charity involves children from an informal settlement in the North.

“I will be giving them books and doing a book reading to encourage a culture of reading, and also increase imagination and inspire them to dream bigger than their circumstances.

“Should I win the pageant I will continue on the journey of working with these children, and hopefully build them a library,” said Louwella.

She has been married to Moeketsi Moeti for 13 years and has an honours degree in Communication. Currently she is doing her master’s in Management in the field of Strategic Marketing.

In 2019, driven by her passion for community upliftment, Louwella started a women’s forum called OnPoyndt Women who meet every month to talk about different real-life issues openly and honestly.

Louwella revealed to the Northsider that through this forum they have found some belonging, and encourage one another to be the best versions of themselves.

“I am a marathon runner who loves reading African literature. I enjoy live theatre performances, good food – especially cake and chocolate – and I love travelling.

“This platform gives women a vision to go after what they believe in. African women are multifaceted, a force to be reckoned with, strong, beautiful, intelligent, hustlers, leaders, yet loving.

“That is what makes African women so unique and special. Through this pageant we get to portray just how dynamic we are and hope to encourage the broken woman, beat-down woman, or hopeless woman that it is never too late to go after what you want,” said Louwella.
